Have you heard about any cryptocurrency yet? Bitcoin? Ethereum? Litecoin? Anything?

Currently there’s over 4,000 various cryptocurrencies (coins, tokens) total. Most of them are useless, and some are specifically created for scamming people. I would recommend something from the top 50-100.

A cryptocurrency (or crypto currency) is a digital asset designed to work as a medium of exchange that uses strong cryptography to secure financial transactions, control the creation of additional units, and verify the transfer of assets. Cryptocurrencies use decentralized control as opposed to centralized digital currency and central banking systems. [Wikipedia]

Since cryptocurrencies are decentralized (with a few exceptions) nobody can access your funds unless YOU provide access, either knowingly or by accident (learn how to protect your crypto assets).

Cryptocurrency is very likely going to replace the Fiat money that we know. It’s unclear when it’s going to take place. Maybe one year from now (2019), maybe 5 years.

A long story short, the Fiat currency is no longer backed by gold standard. It’s being sustained on loans and debts. Basically a ginormous bubble, or a “legitimate” Ponzi scheme. It stays alive as long as there are wars and the waves of financial crisis.

Unlike Fiat currencies, cryptocurrencies cannot be printed/created more and more. Therefore they cannot be inflated. On the contrary — cryptocoins and cryptotokens get lost every day, and once lost they cannot be recovered without the private keys.

Due to that the value of cryptocurrencies can easily go upwards. The other main factor is usage. Something that’s being used more widely is also valued higher.
